More than 23,000 acres of native pecan farms sit inside the treaty territory, and the Chickasaw Nation contributes 364 acres of its own production to the programme. Harvest runs in January, which is also when incentive payments are made.
Growers sell locally, through established statewide markets via the Oklahoma Pecan Growers Association, and into value-added production — Bedré Fine Chocolate, owned by the Chickasaw Nation, sources pecans from this programme.
