“To The Moon” reaches No. 1 on Billboard's Rhythmic and Rap Airplay charts

Billboard's Chart Beat desk logged the milestone in 2022: JNR CHOI's “TO THE MOON”, credited with Sam Tompkins, rose to No. 1 on both the Rhythmic Airplay and Rap Airplay charts. For a song that began life as a TikTok loop, a radio No. 1 was the clearest sign that the audience had moved well beyond the app.

The record's radio run was built on the streaming base that Against Da Grain and Epic had already converted. By the time programmers added it, the song had been a daily streaming fixture for months, which is the sequence Fly Ty has described as the label's playbook: streaming first, radio second, never the other way round.

For Against Da Grain the chart-topper was a marker. It was the first record out of the Epic partnership to reach No. 1 at radio, and it is the reason the label's stat rail still opens with “No. 1, Billboard Rhythmic & Rap Airplay.”
