HITS names Fly Ty a Noisemaker as “To The Moon” turns into a daily streaming event
The trade paper's Noisemakers column put the Against Da Grain founder on its radar in 2022, at the height of the JNR CHOI run.
HITS Daily Double's Noisemakers column tracks the executives behind the records that are moving, and in 2022 it landed on Tyshawn “Fly Ty” Johnson. The reason was hard to miss: JNR CHOI's “TO THE MOON”, the record Fly Ty brought to Epic, was pulling more than 2.5 million streams a day at its peak.
The profile framed Fly Ty as a two-lane executive. He runs Against Da Grain Entertainment as its founder and CEO, and he works inside Epic Records as a senior A&R, which is how a viral TikTok clip became a major-label priority in weeks rather than months.
The column also pointed to the rest of his bench. Philmon Lee, the LaGrange, Georgia singer who later went to American Idol, and Jamie Ray, whose country-trap records were stacking up TikTok views by the hundred million, were both named as the next signings to watch.
