A 2015 feature on the Columbia recording artist who was already running Against Da Grain.
The Source's 2015 feature caught Fly Ty in his first act, as a Queens-born recording artist with a Columbia deal and the founder of Against Da Grain Entertainment, then splitting time between New York and Atlanta.
The story that stuck with readers was the record he made from inside. While signed to Roc-A-Fella, he recorded a verse over the phone from prison for a DJ Clue album, and he later finished his GED and a bachelor's degree while incarcerated. Features with French Montana, Juelz Santana, Lil Durk and producer Jazze Pha followed.
The writers also documented the businessman: the Room Service nightclubs in Atlanta and Miami, and the work with the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council on gun violence. It is the earliest published record of the label that would later partner with Epic.
