Equity for girls and women in sport
BC Women & Sport advocates for gender equity in British Columbia's sports sector, and has been committed to increasing opportunities for girls and women in physical activity and sport since 1990. It serves female athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and administrators through communication, education and specialty programs.
Recognition programs
In Her Footsteps…Celebrating BC Women in Sport honours women who have made significant contributions to BC sport. Honourees are celebrated at Sport BC's Annual Athlete of the Year Awards and featured in an exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame with interactive touch-screen components, artifacts, text and photographs.
The Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation Award provides a $2,000 CAD grant to an emerging female leader in BC advancing gender equity. More than 30 women have received the award to date.
