What Sport BC exists to do

Mission: “Sport BC, as a member-based organization, supports the growth of amateur sport in BC and provides leadership through delivery of its programs and services for members.”

Vision: “Sport in British Columbia is thriving through the leadership of Sport BC and our members.”

Sport BC represents close to 80 Provincial, Disability and Multi-Sport Organizations across British Columbia, delivering services and programs that strengthen member capacity and advocate for better sport conditions province-wide.

History

Nearly 60 years of BC sport leadership

  • 1966

    Sport BC founded

    Established by volunteers to give amateur sport in British Columbia a single, unified voice.

  • 1979

    SBC Insurance established

    Sport BC forms its own insurance brokerage to make coverage more affordable for the amateur sport sector — still the only non-profit-owned brokerage of its kind in Canada.

  • 1990

    BC Women & Sport begins

    Advocacy for gender equity in BC sport begins under Sport BC.

  • 1993

    KidSport BC launches

    Started to help families cover children's sport registration fees; has since distributed more than $17M to over 70,400 kids.

  • 2026

    Operating partnership with the BC Sports Hall of Fame

    Sport BC and the BC Sports Hall of Fame launch a partnership to strengthen leadership capacity while each keeps its own governance and mandate.
