What every applicant should know
Eligibility that applies across our funds
Individuals ages 18+ or organizations (for-profit or nonprofit) irrespective of nationality, creed, or sex are eligible to apply. OTF is not able to support applicants within countries that the United States has trade restrictions or export sanctions as determined by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
How OTF evaluates applications
- Does the proposed effort fit within OTF's remit?
- Does it solve an existing problem (or preempt a rising problem)? What is the real-world applicability of the proposed effort?
- Is it cost effective?
- Is it sustainable? Will the project survive beyond the life of OTF's support?
- Is it complementary to existing efforts?
Open source by statute
OTF's authorizing legislation requires it to support fully open-source tools, code, and components, to the extent practicable, and to support technologies that undergo comprehensive security audits. Read the Congressional remit.
