The basics, in order

  • Turn on multi-factor authentication everywhere it is offered, starting with email and banking.
  • Use a password manager so every account has a different password.
  • Keep one backup you can restore from even if the building burns down.
  • Update devices and browsers when prompted, not eventually.
  • Agree out loud, as a business, that no payment details ever change on the strength of an email alone.
